Mylar film (shim stock )  in the thickness of only 8-microns is utilized  to verify crown contacts. The crown contacts are micro polished until the film  slides between the crown and model with optimal drag to ensure that the crown is not too tight or the contacts open. A well-fitted crown requires minimal, if any, adjustment at crown insertion-increasing the patient's confidence in the doctor.
